Magnificent old stone monument to the Tokugawa Shogunate warriors who died during the Hakodate war. The monument is nestled in a beautifully lush forest and the path through the forest is lined with wild flowers in the spring. Definitely worth the short walk through the forest to get there.
If you are walking towards the mountain or the Cape you can make a quick stop to this Memorial Burial
If you're near Hakodate Hachiman Shrine, stop by this small memorial to the fallen warriors of the Boshin War. This is perfect for the Shinsengumi buffs or any Hakuouki fans.
This is truely an heavenly corner worthy to be visited in late spring (may). The path to reach it is colored by so many flowers and you can enjoy a nice walk through the silent nature to go there. There is a rest area and a small yard with a monument dedicated to Shinsengumi members who died in the Hakodate war.
Recommended to Shinsengumi's hard fans and people who wish to escape the tourists crowds of the most visited tourist spots of Hakodate.
* It's a little far from the closest tram station, you have to walk for a good while to reach it.
It's a quiet place
Hakodate, the place where the Boshin War ended
Monument commemorating the souls of former Shogunate soldiers who died here
When going to Yachigashira Onsen by tram
I also try to walk here for exercise.
Away from the hustle and bustle of the city
You can pray for peace with peace of mind
Beautiful monument nestled at the base of the mountains. You can read about why it was built in English or Japanese.
It was my first time visiting,
The atmosphere was clearly different here.
And as soon as I stood in front of the monument, I felt sad.
I burst into tears...
I had no choice but to build it here quietly.
We have put our hands together thinking about the countless precious lives.
If you go where Google Maps points you,
We arrive at a temple called Myoshinji,
The entrance stairs are facing the temple.
It's on the left side.
Please be careful if you are going for the first time.
It was established by Takeaki Enomoto and Keisuke Otori to commemorate the soldiers of the shogunate who died in the Hakodate War.
The stone monument is carved with only "Hekiketsuhi", which suggests that he was embarrassed by the new government.
The name of the stone monument comes from an anecdote that the blood of a loyal warrior turns blue three years after his death.
